Random Thoughts on a Tuesday

It's been a while since a "real" post... I've been processing a lot, this is some of what's rattling around in the noggin. None of these really seemed to fit in a single post, so enjoy...
  • Would love to hear more about this guy's story. I remember watching him on the Contender.
  • We have been rockin the last couple days putting together a new look to our stage.
  • The more I am in it... I am loving our new church and the team here. Great people. Authentic. I am pumped for what's ahead.
  • I've been chewing on this blog post for a couple weeks. The AG has screwed up quite a bit, but I wonder what kind of ripples will come from this.
  • On that note... I'm still out on the AG. Not that they care, but my verdict is still out.
  • This community looks awesome.
  • Hoping to get the new Blackberry Storm in about 3 days.
  • You MUST MUST MUST check out these guys. Awesome family with an amazing story and company, they are honoring God and putting out some sweet clothes at the same time.
  • I am really looking forward to a couple days to chill with my family and enjoy Thanksgiving.
  • Speaking of family... I am SUPER proud of my wife and her new business, my daughter is pwning the 1st grade and my son is hilarious asking people, "wanna dance hot dog?"
  • Having fun kickin the social media tires with this guy.
  • I've been running the last couple days, it feels good to be active... training not just working out.
  • Love that youtube is now in 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Finished my run to today to this song... there is some interesting truth contained in the lyrics: these are the ears that ring with hate, this is the voice of silence no more, we the people... are we the people? this is the moment that needs to breathe, this is the test of flesh and soul... This is the cloud that swallows trust... This is the black that uncolors us... This is the face that you hide from... This is the mask that comes undone.
  • It would be so killer to be able to scream -sing- growl like James.

Creative fizz

Alka Seltzer has gotten creative. They have gotten these guys to document their "Great American Road Trip" very creatively linked back to Alka Seltzer.

Apache, bumper boats and go-karts

It was quite an eventful day...to say the least.

The last two Fridays we've been trying to do more of the "Friday-day-off-routine-traditions-stuff". We hit up a new coffee shop and enjoying it. Today we started with an early Sonic lunch with my daughter at her school. Sonic is literally on every corner! I feel sorry for those that don't have a Sonic on every corner... ok I don't. After lunch we headed off to the rest of the Friday traditions. Today we added dinner to the event plans.

A family favorite is having dinner on the patio at Central Market. On arriving, there was a shock... someone parked an Apache helicopter in the parking lot! Sam was pumped! The kids were so excited to see this sweet machine up close... ok, so was I. After a quick photo shoot, we grabbed dinner, then off to U-Pick.

U-Pick was our North TX multisite event. I had a blast hangin with some awesome students and leaders at Mountasia... unlimited go-kart + unlimited bumper boats + unlimited mini-golf = unlimited fun!

Makes for a good night. Whew... what a day. Now off to prepare of the aftermath of Ike.

Laughter, Cosby and chocolate

Saturday night was a night to remember... a bunch of friends went out to dinner at a great place and then headed to the Rosemont to see Bill Cosby. Cosby was so funny. One of the funniest moments was an impromptu moment with an audience member in the front. He asked where this person went to school... the audience member said Knox college. Cosby then asked what the Knox mascot was... the audience member slowly replied... the prairie fire. Cosby had a great time and the audience roared.

A staple in most youth ministry settings is pop and pizza. I ran across a some interesting effects of drinking a Coke:
* In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
* 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)
* 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dialate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
* 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
* 60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
* 60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
* 60 minutes: You’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, peed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.
Just a few interesting tid bits for those of you Coke drinkers out there...

Chili

I love a good, thick, spicy, hearty, warm-you-up-during-fall bowl of chili. But too much of a good thing might not be so good. Sunday afternoon there was a slight chill in the air and I was looking forward to a bowl of chili that I knew was waiting for me at home. Sunday afternoon a few friends came over and after a disappointing Raiders game we decided we would head out to eat. J decided that he would have chili and for some reason the chili sounded great. So, round two/bowl two... chili vs. belly. Monday morning I awoke to the chili greeting me and I vowed that I would never eat chili again. Until Monday evening, out with some youth pastors, watching the Bears game. What would really do the trick? A great bowl of chili and I was assured it was some of the best. So, after my third bowl of chili in two days; I would say I have had my fill of a good thing.

Until, maybe tomorrow...
