Colin Powell
Thanks to a buddy of mine I was able to head up to the Leadership Summit today at Willow. The highlight of the day so far was the interview with Colin Powell. He shared some of his "Powell principles" with us. Here are a few of them:
• Reward your best performers, get rid of non-performers.
• Optimism is a force multiplier.
• Be prepared to disappoint people.
• Leaders promote a clash of ideas.
Probably the coolest thing was when Bill Hybels asked what he was really passionate about right now ... he said teenagers. The highest ranking military official is a student ministry volunteer! He said that he trained 17 and 18 year olds to be soldiers for the U.S. and now he teaches 12, 13, and 14 year olds to be soldiers for God.
It's been a great time of learning. This afternoon is going to be great... John Ortberg and Richard Curtis!
